Hello Family & Friends!
Another month has come and gone, and there’s a lot to share with you from this past month. First, let me tell you a bit about how I’m doing.
Last month, I was experiencing a lot of pregnancy insomnia/exhaustion. No matter how tired I was, I couldn’t fall asleep at night. No doubt this was mostly due to being anxious and worried about going through another labor and delivery and thinking about dealing with the aftermath of sleepless nights and tiring days, looking after not just one newborn, but a toddler as well.
So at the beginning of August, I asked God to help me and encourage me with some promises from his Word. Since then, whenever I feel overwhelmed and discouraged, I try to think about these verses. I hope that they can encourage you too in whatever circumstances you’re facing right now.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10).
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you” (Isaiah 26:3).
The other moms that I’ve been meeting and praying with have been a tremendous blessing as well. A lot of them have 2 kids already and have a lot of wisdom to share. This week is the 33rd week of my pregnancy. I’m still feeling great and can’t complain about anything. I’m thankful that Lance sleeps so well at night and takes a long nap during the day. I’m especially thankful for Peter, who is around to help out a lot with Lance and with anything else that I need, including trapping and killing a family of 9 rats (pictures attached for those who are interested).
At the beginning of the month, we took a trip to the Burma border to renew our visa for another 90 days. This is a grueling trip through the mountains (about 10-12 hours there and back), but was made much more enjoyable by the company of our friend, Shinil, who drove the whole way and let us ride in his car. On August 20, we had a fun time celebrating Peter’s 35th birthday with a date to an art illusion museum (sans Lance) and then a big birthday bash in the evening with Create folks and Shan kids all together.
So it’s been an eventful and busy month. We’re thankful for God’s strength and mercies on our lives. September doesn’t look like to be as busy, which is good for me, since I will need to rest more and get things ready for when the baby comes. Thanks for taking the time to read our update. Please pray for us when you get a chance. We feel as James Fraser (missionary to the Lisu people in China) felt, “He would be a missionary simpleton who expected plain sailing in any work of God. I will not, by God’s grace, let anything deter me from going straight ahead in the path to which He leads, but I shall feel greatly strengthened if I know of a definite company of pray-ers holding me up. I am confident that the Lord is going to do a work, sooner or later, among the Lisu here.”
We’re praying for all of you and as always, we’d really love to hear how you’re doing and what is happening in your lives.
Lydia, Peter, Lance & baby
- Wisdom and discernment as we seek the Lord regarding ongoing ministry to the Shan.
- Continued health and strength for Lydia as she nears the due date.
- Finances and trust in God for them as our family is expanding.
- Increased unity at Create through deeper fellowship (weekly gym time for Peter and some of the guys).
- The anointing of the Holy Spirit in creativity and skill for the Himalayan Project, and for God’s word to touch many through it.
- More passion for the Lord burning in and through us at all times, so that His love will spill over through lives that are filled with joy and fully surrendered to Him.
